Wacky blog!

Do people read livejournals anymore? I've noticed that "social" websites like MySpace and Friendster have them now. Touche', livejournal! You got served!

I have a job now, and other good times (read: my upcoming wedding) approacheth. Since there were lousy, whiney, "I'm about to die of starvation" entries clouding this thing up, I thought I would pop back in and say it's a better time, and now if you go to my new website and blog you won't be bothered with unholiday-like-noncheer.

You know what is the most irritating thing about getting fired? Knowing that at the bottom of your priority list is stupid shit like references to your job in your Friendster, Myspace, Suicidegirls, whatever profile. Because of course there are more important things to focus on when you're unemployed, but you don't want anyone (including yourself) to ever be reminded of your former status.

Remarkably unfunny comedy quiz.

-although when you take it, there's a funny question about genocide, presumably to see if you're creepy. I certainly was:

the Wit

(69% dark, 34% spontaneous, 11% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're
probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean you're
pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that 'the
Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor
and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat. I
guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the
perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer. Your sense of humor
takes the most effort to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my
opinion.

Also, you probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm
talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Jon Stewart - Woody Allen - Ricky Gervais

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 81% on dark

You scored higher than 42% on spontaneous

You scored higher than 0% on vulgar

Link: The 3 Variable Funny Test written by jason_bateman on OkCupid Free Online Dating

Living in Chicago?

I've never wanted to leave Chicago. I grew up here, and I love it. Good art, all my friends, and opportunities. But did you know that in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, you can get a HUGE house with a yard and all sorts of stuff, really high quality? All that for under 200K.

In Chicago, 200k can get you a tiny one bedroom condo.

Like I said, I don't WANT to leave Chicago, but give me a break. That's retarded.

Damn bad times

I am worn very thin.

I have posted the following to all the theater message boards I frequent:

###
All Chicago shelters are full, so this is one of my last few options.

My cat, Tsunami, whom I love dearly and whose story has been posted all over this board, is no longer able to live with me. He has recently damaged some personal property and my fiance and I cannot seperate what he has done with him, the cat. He also has not gotten along extremely well with our current cat, another male, and we think he'd get along best in a house where he could either be the alpha-cat or an only cat.

This is extremely difficult for me to do. He is a close friend of mine, and unfortunately it was him or the fiance. And I went with the human, thank goodness. But he is an adorable, rolly-polly, affectionate, super-soft-fur kitty that has never hissed at a human in his life.

He is front declawed, has all his shots. Please contact me VERY ASAP if interested. This is one of the most difficult things I have had to do, and I would much prefer to take him to a loving home than a shelter that doesn't want him and where he may never leave.

I will include a litterbox, food bowl, and even an electric kitty water fountain and toys that he loves, and some food if you are willing or know someone who is willing to give him a chance.

Here are some pictures of him from the day we took him home:

http://geocities.com/toastgun/tsunami/

Thanks for your time.

Dan Telfer

I should note that I only have a two or three days TOPS to make this decision. After that I have to do something I'm dreading, which is take a day off of work and drive to the nearest out-of-state, no-kill shelter with ANY vacancies that I can find.

Right now the closest I can find is a four hour drive away, in Michigan.
###

It's been a long fucking time since I was this torn up inside about something. It was a horrible, horrible decision to make. I don't regret it for a second, but I don't think I will ever feel good about it.

I've had responses that insulted me and my maturity.

I've had responses that are direct mockeries of my situation.

But worst of all, I feel so alone on this. All my friends can say is "boy that's rough" or worse. I don't know how to describe the feeling- it's like kicking an autistic child out of the house. Anyways, I feel like a failure, and Tsunami is more affectionate than ever, and I want to post about it even if I have nothing else to say but I'm in pain, I'm in pain, I'm in pain.

Errah! Or however you spell that scratch thing.

So I auditioned for The Beatbox again, and didn't get cast again. The first time I auditioned as a freestyler/improviser, this time just as a beatboxer.

I'm a terrible freestyler. It's kind of like how I'm terrible at short-form improv comedy; I don't like improv for the fast, freewheeling, witty stuff. I like theater-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. So even though I utterly blow at "rhyme" I tried. I'm better at beatboxing, but I kinda messed that up too. I thought I'd just be working with performers, but I was instructed to "just show us what you got", and it was quite possibly the worst beatboxing performance since forever. I made up for it by getting the cast to get up and freestyle over my beat, I wasn't brilliant, but I felt like I held my own and didn't look too stupid.

But my "solo" was terrible. Just atrocious. I both paniced for lack of expecting that, and disliked being such a center of attention. I think at one point I was just wheezing and making clicking noises.

Hoo hoo, clack.
(sweat profusely)
Hoo hoo, er hoo...clack.

It's an awesome show, and I like doing improv auditions for projects I like (whether they fit or not) so I'll just have to keep looking for an improv project I can actually perform in. I'm coaching like three ensembles right now but not performing at all. That gets boring.

I may be stopping this journal in the next month or so in favor of one on a personal domain. We'll see how well that comes along for blogging though. This might still be my best bet.

That's a word I made up. I tried to get that to catch on as an exclamation, along with "Jumbles!", but it didn't catch on. Jumbles! I really like that one.

Doc South sold out it's first four shows.
L33ter of dumbass juice

Speaking of acronyms, I have a PSP, which is that portable Playstation, right? Well, lately I've been getting irritated because there are lots of hacks for it that let you do cool stuff. I'm not shy about trying "hacks" or "h4xx0rs" as the useless pale people call them, but I have no tolerance for their useless bullshit language. For instance, Penny Arcade promised in a post today that you could start playing old school video games like Doom for free on your PSP. Okay, I'm game. But do they explain it? No, you infer it by reading their title: "Homebrew Apps on PSP 1.5".

I hate this for the same reason I hated when game developers started going insane with ability-adjustments in the once-awesome video game City of Heroes. I shouldn't be a fuckin' techo-geek to play my video game. CoH required you to understand the variety of math they used to justify fucking with everyone's "super-powers". How about you just add on to your open-ended video game? If there was an online multiplayer GTA (as a public service, I refer to Grand Theft Auto), do you think they would abandon new content so they could adjust physics to make it more likely you'd die all the time? It's gay. And so is the "hacker" community, where you have to be able to insert a variety of math and acronyms in a sentence that demands REAL FUCKING PHONETICS. Penny Arcade does a lot of webcomics about the need for good punctuation. Why don't you be the first people to hack video games who can explain it in English? That I could fucking appreciate.

I hacked my X-Box after hours of nervosa, advice seeking, and I still haven't installed an operating system, or "dashboard", or whatever the fuck it is, because to do it requires talking to a ultra-nerd and having them roll their eyes and sigh as you fumble through your instructions.

Fuzzy is a great go-to ultra-nerd, for instance, but I can't bear to show how much I like video games and how little I care to learn a hack. By the time I submit this post he'll have "Trackbacked" or "XML"d the entry, shaken his head, made a PDF of how to not be retarded and saved it to a device that's part USB memory drive, part nail he will drive into my skull.

And people wonder why my social animosity is so finely crafted.

Fucker came in and outbid me at the last possible second!

On a bulk of hopping toy bunnies!

I was the only bid!

If I was looking at buying something that specific and bizarre on Ebay, I couldn't bring myself to pounce in and undercut a bid like that. They're cute little toy bunnies! Not baseball cards or some real collectible shit! GAH!

I have comments turned off on my journal for public safety reasons. If one of you were to mock my enthusiasm for this auction one iota, I would grow to be 900 feet tall and crush your block under my foot.

There are three dimensions to Ebay: buying, selling, and the horrifying psychotic nature of the faceless "internet".
